An attempt to land a sabotage and reconnaissance group on speedboats for the enemy was unsuccessful, as was the repeated landing of marines, according to Colonel Vladislav Nazarov, an officer of the South Operational Command.
Reconnaissance combat
The enemy tried to shell Odessa several times, but the air defenses successfully prevented the bombing. For this reason, the occupiers are conducting reconnaissance shelling of the coast of Odessa to determine the location of the air defense system. UAVs are regularly sent for the same purpose, but they are also shot down by air defenses.
We will remind that at the beginning of invasion of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation bombed several military small towns, including, places of deployment of air defense of the Soviet period, but new positions are unknown to them.
Will there be another landing
The probability of capturing Odessa by landing marines is low, because almost all units of warships are already involved in hostilities. Accordingly, we do not have to wait for a full landing.
Landing is not enough to take the city will need reinforcements of ground troops to approach the city from the north, this is quite distant and possibly unattainable prospect. But these risks cannot be ignored.
The second assault attempt
A second attempt to storm Odessa was made on March 15, when part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet squadron moved towards Odessa. This was stated on March 13 by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov. After that there were rumors of a riot on the ship of the Russian Federation, then the landing party was destroyed in Nikolaev, after that the enemy carried out only rocket attacks which successfully repulsed or fell on the coastal part of the city.
Western analysts on the storming of Odessa
Analyst Michael Coffman considers the assault on Odessa by landing unlikely. Success requires ground forces, they can approach the city, first of all, having taken or bypassed Nikolaev. But these are all resource-intensive events for which Russia may lack the strength, according to CIT analysts.
